چکیده

Idiopathic hypercalcaemia tends to develop between the first and fifteenth months of life and diagnosis rests primarily on biochemical findings. We have determined for this age period the normal values for serum calcium, serum cholesterol and the serum cholesterol fractions by the methods which we use. Over a period of four years samples of blood were taken from 110 infants in hospital, or attending hospital, who required venupuncture. None was suffering from idiopathic hypercalcaemia, diabetes, nephrosis or hypothyroidism.

Supravalvar aortic stenosis.

one manifestation of the idiopathic hypercalcaemia of infancy syndrome, and the possible aetiologies are discussed. Another presentation of supravalvar aortic stenosis is in the so-called familialform, but there may exist considerable confusion between these two forms, as less than 50 per cent of those without physical stigmata have a positive family history, and the severeform of the idiopathi...

Biochemical changes and osteosclerosis after sulphamezathine therapy in idiopathic hypercalcaemia of infancy.

In communications to the British Paediatric Association in 1952, Lightwood and Payne described a group of 10 infants between the ages of 3 and 7 months presenting with anorexia, vomiting, failure to thrive, constipation and sometimes polyuria and polydipsia. They had hypercalcaemia, azotaemia and normal alkali reserves and in two of them radiographs showed nephrocalcinosis. There was no obvious...

Age at diagnosis and abilities in idiopathic hypercalcaemia.

Forty three children aged 6 to 16 years with a documented history of idiopathic infantile hypercalcaemia were assessed on a variety of cognitive and behavioural measures. No relation was found between the age at which hypercalcaemia was diagnosed and subsequent full scale intelligence quotients (IQ) and reading or spelling abilities. Verbal IQ was, however, significantly higher than performance...

Idiopathic renal acidosis in infancy.

During recent years idiopathic renal acidosis of infancy has become more widely recognized as a cause of failure to thrive. Common presenting features are anorexia, vomiting and constipation, which usually appear after some months of apparent good health. In 1935 Lightwood described the clinical syndrome and pathology of nephrocalcinosis in early life. Its association with persistent acidosis w...

Adrenocortical function in hypercalcaemia of infancy.

Since it is possible that adrenocortical hormones may be implicated in the regulation of calcium metabolism (see Hollinger and Pattee, 1956, for references) we considered that it would be of interest to gain some knowledge of the adrenocortical function of patients with idiopathic hypercalcaemia of infancy. We have investigated two such patients, one having a severe hypercalcaemic syndrome simi...
